About Shawn

My name is Shawn Roberts and I am an attorney. I live in Edmond, OK with my wife Amy, our two children Sam (13) and David (5).  We adopted David in 2010 and you can read a little more about that here.

I grew up in a tiny town, Lewiston, Idaho about 3 hours south of the Canadian border. Lewiston is a solid 2-hour drive from nowhere. I went to college at the University of Idaho in Moscow (not the one in Russia, but that meant more during the Cold War).

I came to Oklahoma for the first time in August 1995 to go to law school at Oklahoma City University School of Law.

In September 1995 of my first year of law school at OCU, I became a Christian by putting my faith in and surrendering my life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Coming to Oklahoma was significant for me in many ways but none more so than crossing over from death to life in coming to know Christ. If you are interested in seeing my personal statement of faith you can click here.

I love Oklahoma, I went on to meet my wife here in a singles’ Sunday school class at Belle Isle Community Church in 1996. I don’t want to live anywhere else. I particularly like how the OKC Metro has many of the big-city amenities without all of the big-city issues. I wrote about my thoughts on Oklahoma in this post: Because of Oklahoma City’s vision, I see things unimaginable

I have practiced law for 20 years. I worked at several law firms when I was getting started and then founded a law firm, Brown & Roberts, P.C., with my friend Craig Brown. Following the end of Brown & Roberts in 2010, I started my own law firm which for lack of creative inspiration was called “Shawn J. Roberts, P.C.” Although I have experience in many different types of law, I have tried (albeit not always successfully) to limit my practice to two areas:

  • Small Businesses (contract, employment issues, litigation, etc . . .)
  • Oklahoma Estate Planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorneys).

One thing to keep in mind if you meet me is that I am awkward in social situations. This awkwardness is a challenge in the legal profession that requires building strong relationships.  However, I am a good attorney because I am detail-oriented, responsible and responsive: You can call or email me and I will get back to you. When you hire me to do something, it gets done, on time. Count on it.
